Sumits Yoga New Student Information

We LOVE new students! Sumits yoga is specially designed for any body type and all levels of yoga practitioners. Our practice allows a complete mind and body escape. You will notice more tone, flexibility and an ability to focus. With a consistent practice you will notice an overall improved state of mind. (must be 18 or older to attend classes. Ages 16 and 17 are welcome with a signed parent waiver)

YOGA
Yoga in Sanskrit (an ancient language associated with India) to “yoke”, “union” or “discipline”. Yoga encompasses the broad range of physical, mental, and spiritual disciplines which also originated in ancient India. The goal of yogis thousands of years ago was to discover their “true” nature, to accept and embrace circumstance and to do so without expectation or attachment to results. Though time has passed and yoga has “evolved” in the Western world into a more “physical” practice – yogis today realize many of these same essential benefits.

One can take away from Yoga the benefits from what they chose , it can be physical, mental , spiritual or All of it , depending on what level one is at that time.

Through the Art, Science and Disicpline of the practice One has an opportunity to work on themselves.

What Yoga can be a is a road map for living a better happier healthier life and what Yoga is not a part of any religion or dogma.

CLASS STYLES
Sumits Yoga Class is a unique set sequence of 80 mins(all levels) Hot Yoga class with on and off music created by Sumit Banerjee based on his years of practice, teaching and learning. It combines the core poses and principles of Bikram Yoga and Vinyasa Flow. The Class is created for All levels from Beginners to Advanced Yoga students. It has a specific beginning , static poses, Flow with music and lying down series.

Power/Flow : Power /Flow classes are vigorous yet accessible. They integrate fluid transitions from pose to pose, seamlessly linking body, breath and movement in the Ashtanga inspired vinyasa tradition. The smooth, continuous flow deepens breathing, increases endurance, and calms the mind while restoring and shaping the body. The room is heated and classes vary in length.

Yin: Our Yin classes teach the body to surrender allowing for soft tissue injuries to heal, muscles to release, minds to quiet and deepen physical openings. Teach your body when to be active and when to relax to increase performance, reduce stress and heal. This calming, therapeutic class uses props to support the body in order to deepen the benefits of poses. Both soothing and nurturing, this class promotes the effects of conscious relaxation. An opportunity to be still, relax and let go! Open to all levels.

Sumits Sculpt: Sculpt class is where we incorporate the use of Light weights keeping the essence of the Flow Class.

In some of our studios we may not be offering all the styles other than Sumits Yoga class.

YOGA ETIQUETTE
Class Preparations

Please arrive 15-20 minutes before the class you wish to take. You will need to fill out a quick registration form and discuss any injuries/health issues with your instructor prior to class.

Wear what you feel good sweating in. Breathable fabric is preferred. Avoid cotton if possible. No shoes are needed in practice room.

Come to class hydrated. Making sure you have water throughout your day before you practice and remember to drink plenty of water after your practice to stay hydrated. Water can be purchased in studio or bring a bottle to use. Vita Coco or other electrolyte drinks can also be helpful before, during or after your practice.

Come to class on an empty stomach. Allowing a couple hours to pass after your last meal before your practice is usually needed. Some people need more or less time so you need to see what works best for you.

Bring a yoga mat, long towel and water. Each student is required to have all three while practicing. Feel free to bring your own or rent/purchase from the studio.

Remain in studio the entire class. Feel free to take a break whenever you feel necessary by laying down or sitting quietly on your mat. The desire for breaks fades as you focus on your breath and become adjusted to your environment. If for any reason you must leave early please let the instructor know before class so they can assist you with the least disruption as possible.

Yoga is a life long practice. Yoga is meant for all ages and all types of people. As long as you are focused on your breath and doing the best you can you will receive all the benefits of each pose even if you are not as flexible or perfectly balanced as someone next to you.

Practice regularly. A consistent practice of 4 times a week will allow you to receive maximum benefits. You will still receive these benefits with a reduced amount of time, it just may take a little longer.

THE HOT ROOM
Our practice rooms are intentionally heated to induce numerous physical and psychological benefits. The heat warms your muscles and allows you to work deeper and safer. The heat also heals, helps prevent injuries and promotes sweating which flushes toxins from your body. With persistence, patience and dedication you can lose inches and develop muscle tone and strength that might never come from other forms of exercise. Your clothes will fit better, your posture will be better and your skin will GLOW!

The physical benefits pale in comparison however with the psychological ones. The hot environment commands a sharpening of your mental focus, concentration and willpower during class. Your breath will be your guide, your barometer so to speak. As you move through the poses and learn to give your undivided attention to the breath and the present moment – you will experience a fundamental transformation of how you think about yourself and how you see the world around you. You will learn to find a sense of stillness, calm and ease that with time you will take of the mat and apply to your whole life. Namaste!
